Coronavirus: Miami County now has 21 deaths; 17 linked to nursing home outbreak

Two more Miami County deaths were reported on Wednesday, which brings the total to 21 associated with the coronavirus pandemic.

One of the deaths is linked to a cluster of cases that affected staff and residents at Koester Pavilion in Troy and SpringMeade Health Center in Tipp City, and the second death reported Wednesday was due to community spread, Miami County Public Health spokeswoman Vicky Knisley-Henry said.

There are now 17 people who died due to COVID-19 who were patients of the two nursing homes.

The 21 deaths involve 11 men and 10 women; 14 were 80 or older; three between 70 and 79; three between 60 and 69; and one between 50 and 59, according to Ohio Department of Health data.

As of  Wednesday, there are 125 cases in Miami County with 47 hospitalizations. The cases involve 73 females and 52 males, with an age range of less than 1 year to 96, Miami County Public Health reported.
