Coronavirus: Police break up large car show gathering at Austin Landing

Police dispersed a gathering of several hundred people who gathered their cars together Saturday evening at Austin Landing despite Ohio’s “Stay Safe Order,” according to scanner traffic.

A dispatcher reported a complaint at 6:35 p.m. about people having a car show at the Miami Twp. retail development near Interstate 75 on top of a parking garage. Dispatch traffic indicated several local police departments, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol helped respond.

According to scanner traffic, several hundred cars were cleared out, with more cars coming in while police cleared out others.

Ohioans remain under a stay at home order for another month as the state continues to fight the coronavirus. The new extension called the "Stay Safe Order" includes exemptions for businesses and industries set to open under the phased restart of different industry sectors.

A message was left with dispatch seeking more information.
