The University of Dayton reported Tuesday that someone on campus tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

“This is the first known confirmed case of COVID-19 connected to the University of Dayton,” Dr. Mary Buchwalder, UD’s medical director, said in a letter to students, faculty and staff.

The university said it received notice Tuesday and that the person who tested positive for the illness is in isolation.

Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County is following up with the individual’s close contacts to provide guidance about next steps, including self-quarantine.

The university stated it has performed deep sanitation and isolated the areas the individual may have come into contact with, in accordance with protocols and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention recommendations.

The university canceled summer in-person classes but is working on plans for students to return to university housing and in-person classes in the fall.
