UD student found deceased in dorm is 20-year-old from Mason, Ohio

UPDATE @ 8:22 p.m.: The student who is believed to have died in his dorm of natural causes is a 20-year-old, first-year from Mason, Ohio, studying mechanical engineering, University of Dayton President Eric Spina said in an email tonight to students, faculty and staff.

A group gathering in prayer for all those who mourn the loss of Ben Tavella will be held at a later date, President Spina said.

"We extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to Ben's family, friends, professors and our campus community. Our campus ministers, counseling staff and housing and residence life are always available for you and for those who you know may be deeply affected by this loss," Spina said.

UPDATE @ 7:30 p.m.:

A student found unresponsive in Founders Hall dormitory on the University of Dayton campus is believed to have died of natural causes, a university official said.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office has the body. No other information has been released.

INITIAL REPORT

A coroner's investigator has been called to Founders Hall on the University of Dayton campus.

The call for the investigator was made about 5:30 p.m.
