The owners of Stan’s One Stop said two counterfeit $20 bills were used at the store and employees did not know the bills were fake until they were taken to the bank.
The Xenia Police Department said they have not noticed a major surge in fake bills around the city, but reminded all businesses in the area to take their time when handling any type of money.
“It won’t feel the same, it won’t the size of it won’t be the same size. It’s just the matter of looking at the bill,” Xenia Police Capt. Alonzo Wilson said.
Xenia PD issued a similar warning in June when counterfeit bills were found to be in circulation at local businesses, including Stan’s One Stop.

Officials say to be aware of strange behavior when people attempt to use fake bills, such as suspects trying to hurry through a transaction. Looking for telltale signs of a counterfeit bill, such as a strange paper texture, can also help detect fake money.
