Crews were called around 8:20 p.m. to a vacant two-story house in the 3400 block of East Second Street.
“Smoke and flames were coming from the second floor when they arrived,” Dayton Fire District Chief Brad Baldwin said.
The fire was contained to one room on the second floor, though it did spread a bit into the walls and attic, he said.

There were no injuries, and no one was found inside the house.
“The house appeared to be secure when we got here,” Baldwin said.
The city of Dayton on Nov. 20, 2019, nuisance abated the house, Baldwin said. This is a legal process by which a building can be declared a nuisance if the city can document certain illegal activities taking place.
The house is not believed to be a total loss, although it sustained heavy fire damage to the one room upstairs, water damage on the first floor from the hoses and smoke damage throughout.
