Dayton-area Freedom Schools participate in National Day of Social Action

United Way of the Greater Dayton Area and the Montgomery County Freedom School Collaborative will participate in National Day of Social Action by bringing awareness to gun violence through a series of events at Island Park this morning.

National Day of Social Action engages the community's youth in current social issues and teaches them the importance and process of being civically engaged.

The Montgomery County Freedom Schools Collaborative, comprising 450 scholars across six sites, will join Freedom Schools scholars from across the nation to bring awareness to the issue.

The event will be comprised of Harambee, poetry and skits honoring victims of gun violence, and end with a march around the block.

The program will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Island Park, 101 East Helena Street.

United Way of the Greater Dayton Area works to create positive Community Impact in Montgomery, Greene, and Preble Counties through targeted advancements in education, income, and health.
