Burkhardt Avenue apartment fire listed as suspicious, Dayton district chief says

UPDATE @ 10:09 p.m.:  A fire that severely damaged a Burkhardt Avenue apartment house is being investigated as suspicious, Dayton Fire District Chief Barry Baldwin said.

He said that according to the preliminary investigation, the fire is suspected to have started near an entrance and traveled up a stairway to the second floor.

The house contains multiple apartments, at least two of which were occupied.

The flames caused heavy smoke and lots of damage, but there were no injuries reported.

Firefighters said the blaze likely started in one of the vacant units.

Crews are on the scene of a structure fire in the 300 block of Burkhardt Avenue in Dayton.

Dayton crews were dispatched about 7:55 p.m. on the report. There are no reports of any injuries.
