The victim and the person in custody knew each other.
“It was not a stranger incident,” said Dayton police Lt. Jason Hall. “It’s very early in the investigation. We’re working on motive.”
INITIAL REPORT
A Dayton man killed in a homicide on Sperling Avenue died a day before police found him.
Jerry M. Combs, 85, died from “multiple sharp force injuries,” Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger said.
Combs was found around 8 a.m. Monday in his home in the first block of South Sperling Avenue after police were called to the house.
According to dispatch records, a person went to check on a man who lives in the house and found him dead with blood on the walls.
At the time, police had said it was too early to determine whether Combs’ death was a homicide, but the coroner was made the determination following an autopsy.
A car was towed from the scene, but additional details about the investigation were not released.
