The program is a partnership with the Dayton Metro Library and the Children’s Hunger Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood hunger by improving access to food for more than 500,000 food-insecure children in Ohio.
According to 2017 statistics from the Dayton Foodbank, 93,210 people in Montgomery County struggle with food insecurity, with 26,350 of them being children. While many children receive free or reduced-priced meals at school, they often go without healthy food outside of school hours.

“Providing food to kids who are hungry is so important,” Mandie Burns, Youth Services Director, said.”
“We know that kids can’t attend to other things, like homework, when they are hungry. As a public library, we have the partnerships in place to step in and meet some of the needs we see in our community.”
