There were equipment demonstrations and visitors were given the opportunity to try out some of the gear.
All you need to be is 20 to 35 years old, have a diploma or GED, a driver’s license and a desire to have a positive impact on the community, Dayton Sgt. Jason Hall said.
Hall said the department, which is roughly halfway through its recruiting effort, is averaging about 100 applications a week. The first expo was held earlier this year at Welcome Stadium.
The department is becoming younger by the day, the sergeant said, and older officers are retiring and so their positions have to be filled. According to the city’s operating budget for 2017, there are plans for two recruit classes.
“We are hiring,” he said. “We’re looking for our next generation of Dayton police officers.”
Not to worry if you didn’t make it out to the expo on Thursday night, the department is accepting applications through Dec. 30.
