Brother Raymond L. Fitz

Brother Raymond L. Fitz (1941- ) is the University of Dayton's longest serving president and one of the Dayton region's most respected leaders. He led with extraordinary strength, compassion and faith for 23 years at UD and elevated the University nationally as one of the 10 best Catholic universities in the country. He carried the same leadership values into a host of community partnerships with particular focus on the issues of child protection; urban education reform; and neighborhood redevelopment. The Fitz Center for Leadership in Community at UD addresses a variety of issues and engages the public to work on community concerns including poverty and the value of civic involvement. Brother Fitz worked tirelessly on executive and neighborhood committees for the passage of the Montgomery County's Family and Children First Council Levy. In Catholic higher education nationally, Brother Fitz is known for his efforts in preserving religious identity and academic freedom. He also helped to shape the 1990 Vatican document on Catholic higher education, 'Ex Corde Ecclesiae'. — Inducted: 2012
