An investigation was launched Saturday after a dead body was found in a dumpster in Kettering.

At approximately 12:50 p.m., Kettering Police Department responded to 515 Aberdeen Ave. on the report of a body in a dumpster.

A criminal investigation is under way, according to a release, but police said it is too early to know much about the cause of death. Police could not immediately identify the age or gender of the body.

“Somebody was going through the dumpster when they saw some boots,” said Kettering Police public information officer Joe Ferrell. “They realized the boots were attached to legs and flagged down an officer.”

Police said lots of debris piled on top of the body could be potential evidence.

“They are picking that out very carefully and keeping that organized down on the ground to see if there’s anything that can tell who this person is, who was there with this person or what happened,” Ferrell said. “We rarely, if ever respond to this in Kettering. This is not typical for anywhere in Kettering.”

No one was in custody on Saturday, however, police said they we are looking in the area for any home security cameras.

Ferrell said, “Not sure if we have any (cameras) that pointed in this direction, but we will be looking for any possibility for that as well.”
