“We join the entire Miami Valley in extending our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, fellow officers and colleagues of Detective Jorge Del Rio, the Dayton Police officer who was shot in the line of duty Monday night,” school officials said in a prepared statement.
Kettering’s elementary schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m., the high school will dismiss at 1:05 p.m. and middle schools will dismiss at 1:40 p.m.

Del Rio will be honored with a procession that will carry him through Dayton and surrounding communities to the private service at Tobias Funeral Home.
The procession will result in the closing of Far Hills Avenue in the city of Kettering.

“In order to get our students transported home as close to their scheduled times as possible, we will be dismissing students [two] hours earlier than usual on Tuesday afternoon,” the district said. “This early dismissal will replace the early dismissal that is already scheduled for Wednesday, November 13.”
St. Albert the Great Catholic School on Far Hills Avenue also will be dismissing early at 12:50 p.m., school officials said.
Ascension School on Woodman Drive also will be dismissing students two hours early Tuesday.
