During a 911 call, the dogs owners described their pet to police dispatchers as "a very friendly, 50 lb pit bull mix.
Miami Township-Fire-rescue crews worked with Ohio Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement to reach the animal and prep her for transport.
"As far as I can remember, this is the first rescue of an animal from the wilderness," said Chief Altman. “Typically, it's people and we've had a couple of rescues of dogs from ice but this is the first time I can remember an injured animal needing our help to be brought out of the woods."
The rescuers took the dog to her owners, who took her to a veterinarian.
