Constructed in 1927, the building is 10 stories and 60,000 square feet. The owners have applied for a building permit to remove interior walls, finishes and some mechanical systems, city records show.
The permit identifies the project as a Hilton Tapestry hotel. Requests for comment to Hilton and First Hospitality Group were not immediately returned.

Each room in the buidling is different, meaning hotel guests could have a different experience for many stays, Steve Schwartz, FHG Chairman and CEO said last year.
Launched in 2017, the Tapestry Collection by Hilton is a "portfolio of upscale, original hotels that offers guests unique style, vibrant personality and an authentic connection to their destination," according to Hilton.

Earlier this year, Hilton said it has 50 Tapestry hotels in the pipeline and its portfolio more than tripled in size in 2018. Hilton has 17 "world-class brands" that have almost 5,900 properties featuring more than 939,000 rooms.
Lawyers Development and FHG previously teamed up to develop the Hotel LeVeque, a 149-room boutique hotel that is part of the Art Deco-era LeVeque Tower in downtown Columbus.
The Hotel Leveque, which is part of the Autograph Collection by Marriott, was ranked in 2017 by Architectural Digest as the most beautiful hotel in Ohio.
