Driver critical after being ejected during crash on Stahlheber Road

HANOVER TWP. — A 22-year-old man was flown to University Hospital in Cincinnati early this morning, Feb. 18 after being ejected from his vehicle following a rollover crash.

Devon Koedel, of Hanover Twp., was injured in the crash that occurred at approximately 1 a.m. in the 2700 block Stahlheber Road, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. A dispatcher confirmed University Hospital’s AirCare was able to fly despite strong winds.

Koedel was traveling westbound on Stahlheber near Morman Road when he failed to control his 1984 Chevorlet Caprice, according to investigators. He proceeded to travel off the right side of the roadway into a ditch, careen into a driveway and rolled over several times. Koedel subsequently was ejected from the vehicle.

Koedel suffered a head injury, a possible broken leg and additional injuries as a result, deputies said. He is listed in critical condition as of 8:30 a.m. today, said University Hospital spokesman Matt Kramer.

The incident remains under investigation by the Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team or START.

On Thursday, windy conditions kept a medical helicopter grounded Thursday afternoon and unable to respond to an injury crash in Fairfield Twp. in which two teenagers were injured.
