Most of the structure was knocked down and piles of wood remained on the site around 10 a.m. Monday.
INITIAL REPORT:
A plan for removal of the Eagleland playground at the old Sugarcreek Elementary building by Sackett Wright Park is underway, according to Bellbrook school officials.
Dr. Keith St. Pierre, the school district’s superintendent, said they recently had their insurance company and the company who constructed the playground inspect the structure and both said the structure did not meet modern day safety regulations for children’s playgrounds.
St. Pierre said the 25-year-old playground has outlived many similar playgrounds that are made out of wood and he understands that many in the community have memories of the playground.
The superintendent said he doesn’t want to see anyone injured and hopes that the district can start a campaign to raise money to build additional playground equipment at Bell Creek Intermediate on Upper Bellbrook Road.
St. Pierre said he will make the request for removal of the playground at the next school board meeting, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Nov. 10.
