Around 4:08 a.m., a Piqua police officer witnessed a vehicle going more than 80 miles per hour on Broadway Street, said Deputy Chief Jason Preston.

The officer turned on his cruiser lights and turned his vehicle around to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle was reportedly already out of a sight.

Minutes later, while patrolling the area, the officer discovered the vehicle had crashed into a field off of state Route 66 north of Piqua.

The officer found one person who had been ejected from the vehicle. CareFlight was contacted and the person was transported to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries, Preston said.
