Enon police chief serving as village administrator

Enon picks interim leader after Lohr’s resignation.

Enon’s police chief has taken on an additional role with the village as its acting administrator.

Lew Wilcox was sworn in to serve as the village administrator after the village’s former administrator, Christopher J. Lohr, resigned last month. Lohr had earned about $50,000 annually.

Wilcox will remain the acting administrator until the village hires a permanent replacement.

The village has posted the position on its website and is now seeking applicants.

Wilcox was sworn in as Enon’s police chief in 2012 after he retired from the German Twp. Police Department.

As the village police chief, Wilcox earned $58,000. His salary will increase to $63,000.

Mayor Tim Howard said he’s confident that Wilcox can handle both roles.

“Lew has a really good management style. He’s very fair,” Howard said.

Howard said the village is looking for a new administrator with at least five years municipal related experience.

The individual should have at least an associate’s degree and supervisory experience and a Class 1 operator’s license, Howard said.

The position pays up to $50,000, Howard said.

Lohr turned in his letter of resignation Sept. 10.

The letter stated: “I, Christopher J. Lohr, voluntarily resign my employment with the village of Enon effective immediately. My resignation is conditioned upon the village’s promise to not oppose my application for unemployment benefits.”

Lohr took over the administrator position in Enon on March, 4, 2013, after serving the city of Huber Heights for the majority of his public service career. He worked there in areas of code enforcement, planning and zoning, staff management, budget preparation and grant funding.

Lohr holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wright State University and graduated from Greenville High School in Darke County.

In a statement to the News-Sun about his resignation, Lohr said: “I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve as village administrator. The position gave me the chance to take part in rewarding projects such as obtaining grant funding for park equipment and water softeners for the community. I enjoyed working for the village and wish Enon all the best in the future.

“I’m looking forward to spending time off with my family and starting another position in local government in the near future,” he added.
