Wright Brothers Institute reopened its facility at 444 E. Second St. in Dayton Jan. 22. WBI’s presence in its 444 location, which opened in 2017, has been expanded and the interior completely remodeled to better serve its mission of providing the region an opportunity to collaborate with the U.S. Air Force on cutting-edge research and technology development initiatives.

Wright Brothers Institute brings the Air Force and its needs to the community and gives industry and academia access to business development opportunities that were previously difficult to uncover and often problematic to understand and pursue.

The newly completed expansion reflects the needs and appreciation of Dayton’s small business community, which quickly made use of the resources and connectivity provided by WBI and the Air Force Research Laboratory when the facility first opened. The new layout has more rooms for small and large group collaborations, expanded open areas conducive to WBI Collider events and dedicated space for technology sprints and small business teams pursuing and developing Air Force Small Business Innovation Research program awards.

Wright Brothers Institute is a cutting-edge innovation and technology commercialization center for the Air Force Research Laboratory, with facilities located just outside of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The institute drives fast, agile innovation that enables successful technology development to solve the Air Force’s most complex challenges by leveraging resident experts, unique facilities, disruptive innovation processes and extensive networks.

The institute leverages subject matter experts and intellectual property from AFRL and SBIR companies to unlock the right problem, connect to new partners and synchronize transition pathways through commercialization partners.
