‘Extreme Makeover’ dad takes plea deal

WEST CHESTER TWP. — Greg Akers, the father of three children, who, along with his family, was featured on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” in 2008, took a plea deal in his domestic violence case Tuesday, Dec. 28 in Area III court.

As part of his plea deal, Akers pleaded down to a charge of disorderly conduct, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Akers was arrested Aug. 3 for violating a civil protection order.

Clerk of Courts records show Ginger Akers filed for a domestic violence order against her husband April 14, after filing for divorce March 5.

On Aug. 2, he appeared at 7800 block of Manor Drive, the same home that was featured on the hit television show.

In July 2008, thousands of volunteers showed up to help build the Akers’ a new ranch-style home.

The one-story, ADA compliant home was built for the Akers’ three children — two of whom have spinal muscular atrophy, a degenerative disease that makes mobility difficult.

The Akers’ son suffers from Chrohn’s disease.
