The Fairborn Fire Department is partnering with the UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute to conduct a series of live-fire experiments.

The experiments begin Friday and will last one week in the Skyway Shopping Plaza — a vacant strip mall that’s slated for demolition — off Kauffman Avenue in Fairborn.

Members from Fairborn and surrounding fire departments will be participating in the experiments that will be used to improve firefighter tactics, ground safety, knowledge of fire dynamics, and to improve standard operating procedures.

“The information gathered will help improve the safety of our firefighters and firefighters across the world,” Fairborn Fire Chief David Reichert said.

For the safety of local firefighters and residents, the public is asked to stay clear of the shopping plaza area.
