Fairborn schools to focus on street safety, building maintenance

Fairborn Schools

David Scarberry

The Fairborn City School district is keeping extremely busy this fall season. District administration has been participating in the city of Fairborn planning meetings. These meetings will determine the focus for the community in the future. For the Fairborn City School district, the following areas have been determined as focus areas for the community:

1. Improving the appearance of the property surrounding all buildings in the Fairborn City School district.

2. Improving the safety and maintenance of streets surrounding the schools, especially Funderburg Road.

3. Utilizing existing marketing resources with community leaders to promote Fairborn City Schools.

We are proud to be partnering with the Fairborn community to work together to improve all aspects of the community.

The effective and excellent banners are now proudly displayed at all school buildings in the district.

Baker Middle School students and staff are embracing a new project titled No Excuses University. It is a network of elementary, middle and junior high schools across the United States who are promoting a comprehensive model of college readiness to students when they begin elementary school. Visitors to Baker Middle School will see college symbolism in flags and banners. These also can be seen at Fairborn Primary School and Fairborn Intermediate School. Future plans include college of the month discussions, classroom visits from college students and trips to local universities. Baker also will be offering the Explore Test to all eighth-grade students to as the first in a series to prepare students for the ACT.

Fairborn Primary School held a mobile education program titled Reptiles at the Wright campus. Fairborn Primary also held bus safety programs for our youngest Skyhawks. Fairborn Primary is also participating in the second grade swim classes at the Fairborn YMCA. I want to thank Fire Marshal Carl Day for presenting fire magic safety shows for all students at the Wright campus and main campus.
