UPDATE @ 12:08 P.M., APRIL 16:

Fairfield Fire Department Inspector Jonas Roberts said a cause for Sunday’s fire that displaced people living in eight apartments hasn't yet been determined.

“We’re waiting on the insurance companies to send their investigators so we can dig around,” he said.

He said a cause will be determined after that inspection, which could happen “in the next day or two.”

That’s also when a damage estimate could be determined, Roberts said.

INITIAL STORY, APRIL 15:

The local chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting multiple families displaced by a fire Sunday afternoon at the Fairfield Pointe Apartments.

Flames were reported coming from the roof of a building at 20 Ridge Drive at the complex off South Gilmore Road.

One witness who lives in the complex said she noticed that the fire started downstairs and moved upstairs

Crews from the Hamilton Fire Department also responded as mutual aid.

“We sent an engine company, deputy chief, and medic unit, we were the safety crew,” Hamilton Fire Chief Mark Mercer said. “Fairfield did a really good job on the fire. We are happy to help our neighbors when they need us, just like they do for us.

“All of the dispatch centers have direct communications to each other, and we are always getting better at getting crews where they need to be,” Mercer said.
