Occupant displaced after fire damages Clayton apartment unit

The occupant of a Clayton apartment unit will be displaced after a fire broke out in the furnace of the unit, according to investigators.

Firefighters were dispatched to the Spanish Trace apartments in the 7800 block of North Main Street around 9:20 a.m. Thursday.

The fire was later located in the furnace and was extinguished quickly, according to Clayton Fire Chief Brian Garver.

The occupant of the unit and the occupants of neighboring apartments were evacuated while crews extinguished the fire. Only the occupant of the unit where the fire started will be displaced due to the blaze, Garver said.

Damage caused by the fire was estimated around $6,000, Garver said.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire that broke out in a Clayton apartment building Thursday morning, according to initial reports.

The fire was reported in an apartment building in the 7800 block of North Main Street around 9:20 a.m. Thursday.

Initial reports indicate a furnace caught fire and multiple apartment units in the building were evacuated.

No injuries have been initially reported.
