“Someone opened the back door and they came down the back steps,” the chief said.

Clayton fire crews were joined by several nearby fire departments at the home in the 7900 block because Clayton fire crews were told a person was trapped on the second floor, Chief Garver said.

When Clayton crews arrived around 3:30 p.m., the occupants (a male and two females) said everyone was OK.

Initial reports indicate firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house when they arrived, according to emergency scanner traffic.

No injuries were reported.

Garver said the cause of the fire is under investigation. He described the house “a total loss.”
