The first Dayton baby of the new year was born minutes after midnight Wednesday and was touted by her parents as a "miracle baby."

Lily Rose Ayers was born at 12:03 a.m. Wednesday at Southview Medical Center, weighing six pounds and nine ounces, just a day before her due date.

Her parents, Scott and Tiffany Ayers of Dayton, said the baby girl is their second child and is healthy.

“She had been kind of starting the process earlier in (December) and I expected her to come before Christmas, and she decided to hold out until New Years,” Tiffany Ayers said.

Lily is the couple’s second child. Their first daughter is 15, and the two have tried to have a second child for a long time. Lily’s arrival is special and follows many heartaches.

“My wife, after our daughter was born 15 years ago, she had six miscarriages, and they told her she couldn’t have another child ever,” Scott Ayers said. “She ended up going on a low-carb diet plan to lose weight and she lost 100 pounds.

“As a joke, she took a pregnancy test with a friend at work and found out that she was pregnant. So in my opinion, she’s a miracle.”

The couple said they plan to try to have more children.

Making DaytonStrong live on: ‘The pride is part of our character now’

“The staff here was amazing,” Tiffany Ayers said of Southview. “They were wonderful with her and us, if I am fortunate enough to have more children, I will be back.”
