One of 10 children, Mickler leaves behind a son in Germany and a large extended family in Dayton.
Details still have not been released about the shooting incident involving an Afghan security guard that killed Mickler and a fellow soldier.
The viewing will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, 5301 Olive Road, Trotwood.
Trotwood-Madison school officials said earlier this week that they were saddened by the loss of Mickler, a 1999 graduate. Mickler participated in Junior ROTC, as well as track, football and wrestling at the varsity level. He was the wrestling team captain his senior year at Trotwood-Madison.
“We are proud of our graduate and the sacrifice he made,” said Rexann Wagner, superintendent of Trotwood-Madison City Schools.
Trotwood-Madison officials plan to contact Mickler’s family to determine “what would be appropriate for the school to do,” Wagner said.
