A German Twp. Fire and EMS employee is charged with ethnic intimidation after he was accused of shouting racial slurs at sub-contractors for Ohio Edison, who were trimming trees near power lines at his home, according to Clark County court records.

Kyle Artis, 43, pleaded not guilty to the charge during his initial appearance in Clark County Municipal Court Tuesday.

The tree trimmers told police Artis was yelling at them while they were trimming the trees on Norwood Avenue around 2 p.m. Monday, records show.

“The victims advised that Mr. Artis got upset with how they were trimming the tree and advised them they needed to trim the tree a different way,” a probable cause affidavit read.

According to court documents, after yelling at the trimmers, Artis reportedly grabbed a shotgun and stood in a doorway staring at the tree trimmers.

Artis was arrested and questioned about the incident.

A loaded shotgun was recovered from Artis’ residence, records showed.

Artis was no longer in the Clark County Jail Tuesday around 11:30 a.m.
