County hosting hazardous, special waste collection day

Greene County Environmental Services will hold a household hazardous and special waste collection on Saturday, April 11.

Accepted waste includes household hazardous waste, scrap metal, appliances, tube type fluorescent light bulbs and electronics.

Residents may drop off their items at Greene County Environmental Services, 2145 Greene Way Blvd, Xenia, from 9 a.m. to noon.

WSU to host Ohio Mathematics Contest

Hundreds of fourth through 11th graders will be challenged not only in algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonometry and pre-calculus but, new this year, also in physics in the Ohio Mathematics Contest at Wright State University on Saturday, April 18, from 12:30 to 6 p.m..

The contest is organized by the Dayton branch of the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association and hosted by Wright State’s Departments of Mathematics and Statistics and Physics.

The registration deadline is April 11, and the cost is $30 for the math or physics test or $50 for both tests.

Fourth through seventh graders will be tested on standard and challenging grade-level topics. Eighth graders will be tested on math through algebra 1; high school freshmen, up to the geometry and algebra 2; sophomores, algebra 2 and trigonometry; and juniors on pre-calculus.

The physics test will be offered to ninth, 10th and 11th graders.

The winners will advance to the National Math and Science Competition.

Music club selling flowers

The Fairborn Music Club’s annual spring flower sale is underway through April 22.

Flower baskets and flats are $15 each, bedding Geranium flats are $17, wave petunia flats are $24 and a 6-pack of wave petunias is $9.

Flowers will be delivered on Saturday, May 2.
