Hometown (where you live now): Clayton
Job title: RN
Where do you work: The Maria Joseph Center
Describe what your day is like/what you do: As a nurse in a long term care facility, your day can vary greatly from one day to the next. We not only take care of the chronic conditions, but also any acute care needs that arise and are able to be treated in house.
What inspired you to get into health care? My grandparents were my inspiration for working in health care. I wanted to make sure that every patient had an advocate that truly had their best interest at heart. Throughout my career I have worked in hospitals, long-term care facilities, private practices, hospice and with home health agencies. No matter how much I love each position, I always make my way back to long-term care. The geriatric population holds a special place in my heart and it's an honor to care for them.
RELATED: Health care hero: Despite fear and anxiety, “we are nurses and this is what we do.”
What's a memorable experience you've had in health care? I've had the pleasure of having so many memorable experiences during my time working in health care. The best days are the ones where you get to see your patients accomplish their goals. Whether it be learning to walk again, breathing on their own or getting to go home, anytime you get to experience the elation that comes with their accomplishment, it's a good day.
What do you want readers to know about your job right now? Right now it is important to know that we are doing everything we can to keep your loved ones safe and well cared for. While our facility is currently not allowing visitors, each staff member is going above and beyond to bring comfort and familiarity to a very uncertain time. Our residents are doing well and can't wait for the time when they can see their loved ones again.
