Where do you work: Miami Valley Hospital Intensive Care Unit
Describe what your day is like/what you do: Every day I work with doctors, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, social workers and many others to coordinate care for my patients at the bedside. We all make sure their vitals are stable, their pain is controlled, and that we are working toward getting the patient better each day to get them home to loved ones. It's a tough job with a lot of responsibility. You are holding someone's life and well-being in your hands. But it is also very rewarding when you see that person make steps toward getting better.
Coronavirus: Area nurses making a difference during pandemic
What inspired you to get into health care? I always knew I wanted to go into the medical field and help others. I felt that being a nurse was the best way I could accomplish helping people when they need it most.
What's a memorable experience you've had in health care? I can't think of one specific moment. There have been a couple of times when someone has come back to the hospital to visit and see the nurses and staff that took care of them. Getting to see somebody fully recovered and walking around after a bad car accident or just being sick and constantly in the hospital is amazing. It is times like those when you know you are really making a difference in someone's life.

What do you want readers to know about your job right now: Especially in this time of uncertainty with COVID-19, what I want people to know is that everyone at Premier Health is doing everything we can to help. We are communicated with daily in regards to COVID-19 and we are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff. The support from the Dayton community has also been amazing and very much appreciated.
