News Center 7 reporter Sean Cudahy was on a trail along the Great Miami River between the Monument Avenue and Interstate 75 bridges Friday where high waters that have since receded caused a huge mess.
The path’s asphalt was crumbled and missing in some places, according Cudahy.
Erosion underneath the pavement made the path appear unstable while old sections of the trail were completely exposed. Dirt covering up a pipe had washed away.
“Avoid it at all costs. It’s pretty bad and looks like you’re going to fall into the ground or something,” Ramone Barrett of Dayton said.

Barriers blocked off a section of existing trail to keep bikers and joggers away.
“We don’t want anyone riding over it because we’re fearing it could collapse,” Brenda Gibson of the Miami Conservancy District said.
The Miami Conservancy District said it averages eight heavy rain events a year but last week was the seventh heavy rain already this year.
