A senate bill passed in October 2017 requires water districts to implement an Asset Management Plan to ensure safe and reliable drinking water for all citizens. Last March, the EPA mandated plan was successfully implemented.

The Jefferson Regional Water Authority Board of Trustees approved a 15 percent increase effective June 1.

JRWA serves parts of Montgomery County including Miamisburg, West Carrollton, Moraine, Trotwood and several townships.

News Center 7's Kate Bartley looked into the reason of the increase and just how much more those residents will pay over the next six years.

JWRA said they needed to charge more, mostly to pay for equipment and vehicles.

They are projecting to increase water rates by four percent in 2020, 2021 and 2020, three percent in 2023, and two percent in 2024 and 2025. In total, that’s about a 38 percent increase over what customers are paying now.

Today, 2,000 gallons is $25 but after 2025, that’ll cost about $34-65.

JWRA says they haven’t increased prices for 15 years, but now they have to if they want to stay in the black.
