Hobby Lobby proposed for Beavercreek

Hobby Lobby has submitted plans to build a 55,000-square-foot store in Beavercreek, according to city documents.

If preliminary plans are approved, the new store would be located on an empty lot next to Target on North Fairfield Road.

“It looks like, from what has been submitted to us, they are moving forward,” said Sandra Pereira, an associate city planner for Beavercreek’s planning and zoning department.

Hobby Lobby did not return multiple phone calls from this newspaper seeking comment on Monday.

If plans are approved next month, the Beavercreek site would be one of more than a dozen new retail stores Hobby Lobby plans to open this year which includes three locations in Kentucky.

In addition to the land development application dated Feb. 3, site plans for the hobby and craft retail store have been submitted to the city.

Because the proposed project is in the early planning stage, additional information, such when construction would start if the project were approved, is not available yet.

The city planning and zoning office will review the application and suggest changes before the application goes before the city planning commission for a vote on March 4. The commission will make a recommendation on whether to approve, deny or table the application.

If the planning commission approves the application, Beavercreek City Council could vote on it later that month.

Hobby Lobby Stores Inc., a family-owned business located in Oklahoma City, Okla., has more than 550 stores locations across the country, according to the company website.
