Hot week ahead, severe storms possible Wednesday

Temperatures will rise significantly for the first week of June, and with the heat will come the chance for some severe weather at times.

Today is expected to be the only day with a high in the 70s. Clouds will increase throughout the day, which has a high of 74 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

After an overnight low of 59 degrees, Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high of 86 degrees. Winds could gust up to 20 mph at times.

On Wednesday, the high will be 89 degrees. The forecast includes a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, and the NWS says a few storms could be strong to severe. It’s the only chance for severe weather currently in the forecast.

Thursday will bring a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high of 84 degrees.

Friday calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 87 degrees.

The long-range forecast calls for similar weather for Saturday and Sunday.
