Two people were in the house at 402 Hudson Ave. when the explosion happened about 2:30 p.m., sending flames in the air and littering the area with brick.
One of the people in the house had a lighter when they entered the house seconds before the explosion, according to fire officials.
Both people were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The brick home, which has been demolished, is owned by Greg Gibbs, according to the Butler County Auditor’s website.
Hamilton Fire Investigator Trevor Snider said he is continuing interview witnesses and reviewing video from those first on the scene, but the cause may be a gas leak.
“We just don’t know at this point,” Snider said.
