“Everyone tells us there’s definitely nothing like this in Dayton,” Ty Sutton, president and CEO of the Victoria Theatre Association, said. “We built this to be for the community to create art.”
The annex will host educational programs for youth and adults and national touring artists, Sutton said, but the artistic endeavors will come from the community.
The space, which will be available for rent, can be used by theater companies, dance groups and video premieres as well as for stage readings of plays, singer songwriters and meetings and receptions.
“The key is we want it to be a space where people can come up with their own ideas to create art in this community,” Sutton said.
Grand opening weekend will feature local artists and professionals in a variety of performances. A staged reading of a new play, a steel drumming workshop, a Funk Unplugged show with music legend Keith Harrison and dance classes are among the events.
A community open house with self-guided tours is scheduled for Sunday Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. – noon.
Each event has limited capacity and the public is encouraged to reserve a spot at victoriatheatre.com/arts-annex. Many of the events are free but some have a fee.
