The $18 million music center planned for this city now has a builder.

Monday night's vote to award Messer Construction with the music center construction contract was unanimous. The amount of the contract is not to exceed $11.7 million.

Construction on the 4,500-seat covered venue is expected to start in early October and be completed in late summer 2014.

Messer's bid was the lowest at nearly $11.8 million. Messer built the PNC Pavilion at Riverbend in Cincinnati, the venue upon which Huber Heights is modeling its center. The bid also included landscaping, irrigation, paving and utilities.

The city budgeted $12 million for this portion of the total $18 million music center project, project manager Ken Conaway said.

The music center site is on 33.6 acres along the south side of Executive Boulevard, west of Meijer near the Interstate 70 and Ohio 201 interchange. The music center will be at the west end of the property, with GoodSports' $22 million fieldhouse/hotel between it and Meijer.
