The land purchase is a critical one for the city, Schommer said, so they want to make sure they put it to its best use. Schommer said S.B. Friedman has been selected because they are outside of the market. Local firms were also considered, but Schommer said they wanted an outsider’s perspective on the best use of the land.
S.B. Friedman can also heavily customize the study to the needs of Huber Heights, he said.
On Monday, city council will consider hiring S.B. Friedman for $67,500.
If hired, S.B. Friedman would conduct a site analysis, key informant interviews and assess the industrial, retail and residential potential of the site. The firm will also conduct a demographic study, Schommer said.
S.B. Friedman conducts market analysis studies, land use and transportation studies, project financial feasibility studies and planning.

From the kick-off meeting, S.B. Friedman would work for the city from 60 to 90 days. Schommer said because of the level of customization that he thinks the city will need, the timeline will be closer to the 90-day mark.
The land purchase is part of what the city is calling its “transformational economic development” (TED) program.
The TED will look at long-term growth and identify a source of revenue that will grow the economic base of the city.
