Hundreds of Boy, Girl Scouts attend Dayton National Cemetery grave ceremony

Hundreds of Boy and Girl Scouts attended the Dayton National Cemetery’s Memorial Day grave decorating ceremony Saturday morning.

The Ohio American Legion annually sponsors the program that honors the Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary, Miami Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, Dayton VA Medical Center Chaplain Services, and the American Legion Department of Ohio.

Speakers in the ceremony included Dayton National Cemetery Director Douglas Ledbetter, Dayton VA Medical Center Chaplain Kenneth D. Boyd, Ohio American Legion Assistant Sergeant-At-Arms Melissa Fowle, Ohio American Legion State Commander Robert Schmitt, American Legion Auxiliary President Kathy Heichel, Sons of the American Legion State Commander Bernie Kessler, and the Dayton National Cemetery Honor Squad.

A Grave Decorating Pin was awarded to each participating scout by the American Legion as a thank you and a symbol of a job well done.
