Iowa-based energy crew on way to help Hurricane Dorian recovery effort

The caravan to the East to help with Hurricane Dorian recovery efforts continues from Dayton on Wednesday morning when 126 workers from Iowa-based MidAmerican Energy Company resume their journey, headed to a staging area in North Carolina where they will await further instructions.

The contingent -- 81 employees and 45 contractors -- spent Tuesday night at the Marriott at the University of Dayton.

The MidAmerican Energy crews, comprised of line crews and support staff, left the Quad Cities (Bettendorf, Iowa) on Labor Day morning and expect to arrive in Raleigh, North Carolina, Wednesday afternoon, Geoff Greenwood, company media relations manager, said in an email.

The Iowa crew could be sent elsewhere, depending on need, but they will be ready for assignments Thursday morning.

Most of the employees sent from the Des Moines-based company are from Iowa and some are from Illinois, Greenwood said.

Charlotte-based Duke Energy requested mutual assistance from MidAmerican, Greenwood said.
