I-75 reopened in Miami County following multiple crashes

There were numerous injuries, and interstate traffic rerouted through downtown Piqua and Troy.

It appears the icy conditions caught city, county and state crews off guard, but plow and salt trucks got out as quick as possible.

Multiple crashes resulted in the closure of I-75 in at least two spots Sunday afternoon.

In Miami County, I-75 has reopened between Ohio 41 and U.S. 36 due to multiple crashes around 3 p.m. Both sides were closed, but the south lanes were open as of 4 p.m.  The north lanes reopened shortly after.

In Montgomery County, I-75 south in West Carrollton has reopened after multiple accidents, including a jackknifed semi truck, were reported around 1 p.m. As of 3:20 p.m., it was reopened.

In Greene County, a crash also was reported at I-675 and Grange Hall Road. Multiple injuries were reported, however the crash was cleared by 3 p.m.

Crashes have also been reported in the following areas around 2 p.m.

Multiple crashes in Warren, Butler counties

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers in Butler and Warren counties investigated one fatal crash on Ohio 48 in Hamilton Twp. in Warren County and six other crashes that reported minor injuries.

Since 2 p.m. Sunday, Butler County Sheriff’s dispatchers said there were 37 crashes throughout the county. Of those crashes two were reported to have resulted in minor injuries, one was reported on Ohio 129 west of the Ohio 4 Bypass; and the other crash was on Ohio 4 in Fairfield Twp.

Dispatchers said a serious crash was reported in the 6200 block of Ohio 177 in Milford Twp. where a pickup truck went into a barn and required medics to transport one person to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

No other information was available on these crashes.

INITIAL REPORT:

Law enforcement officials say there have been reports of accidents and multiple cars sliding off roads due to hazardous road conditions.

Mixed precipitation is expected with up to two inches of snow and some ice, according to the National Weather Service, as a winter weather advisory has been issued throughout the day on Sunday extending until Monday at 1 a.m.

Clark, Preble, Montgomery, Greene, Butler, Warren and Wayne (Indiana) are under the advisory.

Law enforcement officials around the Miami Valley region reported that there have been multiple “slide-offs,” on roads and urged drivers to use “common sense,” while out on the roads.

A crash was also reported at I-675 at Grange Hall Road. Multiple injuries were reported, but their statuses are not clear.

I-75 north at Austin Landing Blvd.

I-675 south at Miamisburg Centerville Road

I-675 north at Wilmington Pike

No snow emergencies yet

No areas are currently under a snow emergency, but here’s what the levels are in case they are declared in the coming hours:

LEVEL 1: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads are also icy. Drive very cautiously.

LEVEL 2: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be on roadways. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work.

LEVEL 3: All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. However, those traveling on the roadways may subject themselves to prosecution.
