Spring is the home improvement store’s busiest selling season.
“When the stores are busy, the rapid deployment centers and other parts of the supply chain are busy replenishing product,” he said.
Home Depot’s Monroe Rapid Deployment Center is located at 500 Gateway Blvd. in the Corridor 75 Premier Logistics Park. It was one of Monroe’s top five employers in 2010, according to the city.
Earlier this month, Atlanta, Ga.-based Home Depot said it started recruiting for more than 70,000 seasonal positions nationwide at its retail stores to prepare for the spring season.
Job closings in Monroe were also announced earlier this month. Diversapack of Monroe said it would close on or around March 5, affecting approximately 173 jobs, according to a notice sent to the state about the layoffs. Diversapack fills liquids of personal and home-care products, such as soap, body wash and lotion.
The Monroe rapid deployment center opened in 2009 with more than 200 employees. It is one of 19 centers in the U.S.
The distribution center has approximately 300 employees, according to Home Depot.
“They continue to experience remarkable growth, which provides local residents for welcomed employment opportunities during a challenging economy,” said Kevin Chesar, Monroe director of development.
To apply, go online to www.careers.homedepot.com. Then online applicants that meet initial qualifications will be invited on site for interviews on Feb. 16 and 23, Holmes said. A hiring event Thursday is already full, Holmes said.
“Now’s a good time to apply to get in the pool for consideration,” he added.
