Rob Klaben, vice president of Morris Furniture Co. Inc., called the Dayton area “a very competitive marketplace” for furniture stores, with several other new stores opening or planning to open in the region, and especially around the Dayton Mall and Fairfield Commons mall.
Consumers like to shop and compare, and, “We wanted to be where our competitors are,” Klaben told this news outlet late Tuesday.
The Dayton Daily News reported in November 2019 that growth in home-improvement spending has helped to create a boom in new furniture and appliance stores in the Miami Valley. Within a few months of each other, five new furniture stores have opened in an area stretching from Beavercreek, home of the Fairfield Commons Mall, to Miami Twp., where the Dayton Mall is located.
At the Dayton Mall, the Morris Home showroom will occupy about 50,000 square feet near the former Elder Beerman (Bon-Ton) site at the mall. At The Mall at Fairfield Commons, a Morris Home showroom is under construction and will replace the upper level of the former Sears department store location. Round1 Entertainment opened in November 2019 in the former Sears store’s lower level.
Both new showrooms will include Better Sleep Shops and Morris Outlets, company officials said.
“These two showrooms will allow us to be more convenient than ever before to our loyal customer following,” Larry Klaben, president and CEO or Morris Furniture Co., said in a release. “These beautiful showrooms will be unlike any other furniture stores in the Dayton area.”
Company officials anticipate hiring about 30 people for the new showrooms.
Morris Furniture Co. started in Dayton in 1947 and operates retail showrooms in the Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus and Northern Kentucky markets. The company employs more than 500.
