Waynesville, chamber reach agreement on Ohio Sauerkraut Festival

A settlement has apparently been reached in the dispute threatening the 48th annual Ohio Sauerkraut Festival.

“Please advise by noon Tuesday, June 13, 2017, whether the Village is willing to renounce their previous demands. If not, or if I do not hear from you by the designated time, the Chamber will have to seriously consider canceling the Festival,” Martin Hubbell, lawyer for the Waynesville Area Chamber of Commerce, said in a letter sent last Monday to Waynesville Law Director Jeff Forbes.

Hubbell met with lawyers for the Village of Waynesville, along with the the local school district, via teleconference to find a solution to the dispute.

The festival is said to draw 100,000 people a year to Warren County.

Afterward, Hubbell said he had reviewed changes sought to the agreements, one regarding the use of village police for security.

Mayor Dave Stubbs said the dispute was in part due to miscommunication over the rules set for all village festivals and events after last year’s festival.

This year’s festival is scheduled for Oct. 14 and Oct. 15 in downtown Waynesville.
