A young boy has died after being shot in Springfield.

Springfield Police Sgt. Joe Tedeschi confirmed that the child is a boy between 3 and 4 years old, and he suffered a gunshot wound.

The shooting was reported around 12:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Clay Street.

A crew from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrived at the scene to assist Springfield police. Tedeschi said the case was likely suspicious.

The area is blocked to traffic.

Police have not said how the child was shot.
