Victim of deadly Darke County snowmobile accident identified

UPDATE @ 4 a.m.:

The Darke County coroner’s office has identified the victim of the crash as Johnathan Gehret, 18, of Versailles.

According to a release from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Gehret was traveling westbound through a field on a 1997 red Ski Doo. He drove off the east side embankment of the North Fork Stillwater River and struck the west embankment.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Ansonia Police Department, Ansonia Rescue Squad, Ansonia Fire Department and the Rossburg Fire Department responded to the scene.

The incident was reported at 8:45 p.m.

This snowmobile crash was one of two that occurred Tuesday evening.

UPDATE @ 9:22 p.m. (Dec. 18): One person is confirmed dead as a result of the snowmobile accident. A Darke County coroner's investigator has been called to the accident.

INITIAL REPORT (Dec. 18)

Medics and deputies have been sent to a snowmobile accident in the 11,000 block of state Route 118 in Ansonia in Darke County.

We're hearing there is at least one male who is unconscious after crashing into a ditch near a creek about 8:48 p.m., according to sheriff's dispatch.

CareFlight has been called to the scene. The condition of the male is not known.

We're also hearing first responders could be dealing with an unknown number of potential patients, who apparently were aboard snowmobiles as well.
