Parent Jeff Hildebrant, whose daughters attended Edwin Joel Brown, said: “I think that’s crazy, everything going on now with Florida and all the shootings, I personally think they need to arm the teachers, all I can think of to stop it.”
The student in this incident is on a half-day schedule — for reasons why this news outlet is trying to find out — but for unknown reasons returned to the school campus after his school day had ended Wednesday.

FIRST REPORT
A school resource officer recovered a loaded gun from a student at Edwin Joel Brown Middle School Wednesday after students spotted the seventh grade student with the gun on the school’s playground, according to a Dayton police report.
Officers responded to the school, 31 Willowwood Dr., around 2:30 p.m. after receiving a report from the school resource officer, the report showed.
It’s the second instance of a gun being brought to a local school in as many days.
While questioning the 14-year-old student, the gun, which was loaded with four live rounds, was found tucked into the front of the student’s waistband.
Live updates for the FL shooting
The student was arrested and transported to the juvenile detention center, the report showed. He is facing a CCW violation charges, officials said.
The 14-year-old was on active probation for a previous felony theft charge.
According to the report, the student is a half-day student and typically leaves the school around 11:30 a.m., but is known to the school resource officer and other staff to have “some behavioral issues.”
The student returned to the school and was spotted looking through classroom windows, the report said.
“It drew students’ attention and they were looking out the windows,” the report read. “One of the students advised (the student) lifted his shirt and when he did, the students saw a firearm tucked in the front of his pants.”
One of the students yelled about the gun and the students in at least one of the classrooms “quickly laid prone,” the report showed.
“The young student who saw the gun through the window is who acted very quickly,” said Marsha Bonhart, spokesperson for Dayton Public Schools. “I think everyone acted very quickly.”
Bonhart added that a lockdown was not issued, because “by the time it was confirmed the proper process was initiated, the student was already quarantined, supervised and disarmed, rendering a lockdown unnecessary.”
The school resource officer began attempting to find the student and as she was exiting the building the student was discovered at the front doors of the school, the report read.
The school resource officer escorted the student into the office, where she patted the student down and discovered the firearm, described in the report as a .32 special revolver.
The district did issue a robocall to parents alerting them to the incident.
“Please know the building security and the principal took the weapon from the student without a problem. Dayton Police were called and the student was taken away,” the robocall said. “We want you to know your child’s safety is always our priority.”
The 14-year-old suspect will appear in juvenile court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
